RED JET 7
Red Funnel has cancelled some of its sailings on the morning of Aug 24 over an issue with two of its vessels. The 7.50 a.m. sailing of the 'Red Jet 7' from Cowes and the 8.30 a.m. departure of the 'Red Osprey' from East Cowes have both been cancelled. A fault with a generator onboard the 'Ret Jet 7' and a fault with the voith unit on the 'Red Osprey' was to blame.

On the evening of Aug 23, 2024, a sailboat sailing off Antifer reported to the CROSS Jobourg that it had a propulsion failure and was having communication and positioning problems, particularly on its VHF. The CROSS deployed the 'Président Pierre Huby-SNS 161' from the SNSM station of Le Havre and the minehunter 'Croix du Sud', which was sailing in the same area, to provide assistance. A trawler sailing nearby was diverted to locate the sailboat. After a long search in the area, the SNSM reported that the yachtsman appeared to be suffering from hypothermia. The 'Croix du Sud' therefore launched its semi-rigid, transferred its nurse on board the sailboat and carried out a medical assessment of the yachtsman. The CROSS Jobourg then established a telephone conference with the maritime medical consultation center (CCMM) in Toulouse and the nurse from the Croix du Sud. No medical care was recommended by the regulating doctor. The SNSM boat took the sailboat in tow to the port of Le Havre, where the convoy arrived safely early on Aug 24,. Upon arrival at the quay, the yachtsman was taken care of by the firefighters who transferred him to the hospital in Le Havre. CARNIVAL VENEZIA
A US Coast Guard helicopter aircrew medevaced a 56-year-old female from the 'Carnival Venezia' approximately 52 miles east of Toms River, New Jersey, on Aug 22, 2024. Coast Guard Sector New York watchstanders received a report from the vessel on Aug 21 at approximately 7:50 p.m. of a passenger experiencing a medical emergency. The duty flight surgeon was consulted and recommended a medical evacuation to a higher level of care. A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin aircrew launched and arrived on-scene around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The aircrew successfully hoisted and transported the patient to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in New Jersey. The condition of the patient was unknown.
CG ISAAC MAYO
The ' Isaac Mayo' repatriated 41 migrants to Cuba on Aug 23, following multiple interdictions of unlawful maritime migration attempts in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry. A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrew notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel on Aug. 16., approximately 39 miles south of Key West. A good Samaritan reported a vessel to Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders on Aug 18 approximately 8 miles southeast of Port Everglades. A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrew alerted Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders on Aug 19 of a migrant vessel approximately 58 miles south of Marathon. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, migrants were processed to determine their identity and are provided food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention before repatriation to their country of origin or return to the country from which they departed.
KMP WIRA ONONIHA
The 'Wira Glory' and the KMP 'Wira Ono Niha' were in allision while docking at the ASP Port, Sibolga, on Aug 23, 2024. Both ships only suffered minor damage, no injuries were reported. The 'Wira Ono Niha' had just arrived from Teluk Dalam, Nias and was about to dock at ASP Port, but suddenly lost control and hit the stern of the 'Wira Glory' which had previously docked at the port. SW NORTH WIND I
On Aug 21, 2024, the 'SW North Wind', while sailing 57 nautical miles south of Aden, reported five explosions close to the vessel. The ship, however, remained undamaged. According to maritime security consultancy Vanguard and UKMTO, there were three further explosions over the next few hours. The vessel was unscathed and continued on its journey. It then sailed via Bab al-Mandeb, and while it was west of Hodeidah, the rebels launched another bomb attack, this time from an unmanned bomb boat. The explosion hit the water close to the ship but no significant damage was incurred and the vessel continued on its way northward. and continued proceeding towards its next port call. The ship had sailed from Singapore Anchorage on Aug 7 en route to Suez. No casualties were reported.

The bodies of two workers who lost their lives in an incident on Aug 22, 2024 on the 'Navis 2', waiting in the Gulf in Bandırma district of Balıkesir, have been removed from the ship, which was waiting to dock at the port in the Bandırma Bay No. 1 anchorage area. Konstantin Martynov (46) and Dmitry Mochalov (52) lost their lives due to suspected gas poisoning in the hold of the ship. Following the incident, the body of Konstantin Martynov was removed from the ship, which was docked at Bandırma Çelebi Port after the cargo discharge was brought forward upon the ship's request. After the cargo in the hold was unloaded, the teams that reached Dmitry Mochalov's body early in the morning sent both bodies to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the exact cause of death. Dmitriy Mochalov and Konstantin Martynov fell into the manhole section between holds 3 and 2 and died. The autopsy results are awaited. There was no clear result yet that they were poisoned. The forensic medicine report was awaited and the examinations continud, considering the possibility of poisoning.
SOUNION
Three fires have been observed on board the 'Sounion' the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Aug 23, one day after it was evacuated by its crew after being attacked by Yemeni Houthi militants. The Houthi terrorists said on Aug 22 that they had attacked the tanker in the Red Sea. The UKMTO received reports of three fires being observed on the vessel, which appeared to be drifting. Later in the day, the Houthis posted a video on social media that purportedly showed them setting the tanker on fire. The ship, carrying 150,000 metric tons of crude oil, now was posing an environmental hazard, the EU’s Red Sea naval mission Aspides said on Aug 22.The attack led to the loss of engine power, according to UKMTO. AUTUMN
The US Coast Guard medevaced an ailing man from the 'Autumn' 480 nautical miles off Honolulu on Aug 21, 2024. Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a call on Aug 18 at 1:45 p.m. from Pacific Fishing & Supply personnel reporting that a 53-year-old crew member aboard the fishing vessel was exhibiting stroke-like symptoms approximately 750 miles offshore. The 'Autumn' estimated they were six days’ transit from Oahu. JRCC Honolulu watchstanders advised the vessel’s master to continue toward Oahu and conferred with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac. Watchstanders directed the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter 'Harriet Lane' to rendezvous with the Autumn approximately 480 miles offshore Oahu and conduct the medevac. The 'Harriet Lane' rendezvoused with the 'Autumn' on Aug 21 at 4:05 p.m., took aboard the ailing crewman and began transiting ashore. On Aug 23 at 6:30 a.m., a 45-foot Response Boat from the Coast Guard Station Honolulu met the 'Harriet Lane' near the entrance to Honolulu port, took aboard the patient and brought him to Station Honolulu. Emergency medical services personnel then transported the patient to Queen’s Medical Center. He was reportedly in stable condition.

The 'Conro Trader ' caught fire at the port of Kavkaz on Aug 22, 2024. It was alleged she was hit by Ukraine's anti-ship missile Neptune. The ship later sank due to the damage suffered. The ship has been transporting fuel to Crimea. The vessel was loaded with 30 fuel tanks when it caught fire. Dense black smoke was rising from the ship. There were 15 crew members aboard the vessel, and around five of the, were missing. FPSO FLUMINENSE
The FSOP 'Fluminense', which was supposed to call at Frederikshavn on Aug 23, 2024, to be scrapped at the MARS, is currently being towed around the Kattegat by three tugs, as the permission to call at the port has not been obtained. Negotiations were underway between the municipality, which owns the port, and MARS about the conditions for the ship to call at the port. Thevessel is the largest to date scrapped in Frederikshavn.

For four days, the contracted salvor for the 'Terra Nova' off Bataan has been able to siphon off a total of 161,612 liters of oil of the 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil. In an update report on Aug 23, the Philippine Coast Guard said on Aug 19, the Harbor Star Ship ping Services Inc. collected 2,350 liters of oil; 36,100 liters on August 20; 42,026 liters on Aug 21 from the 'Terra Nova'; and 81,136 liters on Aug 22.Harbor Star earlier said they were targeting the completion of the siphoning process in 14 days.I The PCG said Harbor Star disclosed that the rate of oil flow during the Aug 22 operation was approximately 7,200 liters per hour.

On Aug 23, 2024, at 10:24 p.m., the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departmental Fire and Rescue Operational Center (CODIS 64) was alerted by the 'L'Hendayais II' that they were about to run aground on the beach at Hendaye, while the boat was at the entrance to the port. The CROSS Etel initiated a rescue operation, involving the 'SNS 094 - Pierre Loti II' from the SNSM station Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the 'SNS 149 - Bidasoa' from the SNSM station in Hendaye and firefighters to the scene. At 11:05 p.m., the 35 passengers of the grounded ship as well as the three sailors were evacuated and taken care of on the beach. There were no injuries. On Aug 24 the CROSS Etel deployed the 'SNS 149 - Bidasoa' and assistance vehicles from the firefighters. Taking advantage of the high tide, the ship was gradually refloated. The 'SNS 149' towed the ship to an anchorage in the Bay of Fontarabie at 7:39 a.m. No pollution was reported.

The 'Escanaba (WMEC 907)' offloaded more than 3,400 pounds of cocaine and 4,410 pounds of marijuana with a combined assessed street value of approximately $50 million in Port Everglades on Aug 23, 2024. It had embarked a Coast Guard Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron aircrew, and Law Enforcement Detachment 107 from Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team Pacific. They worked alongside interagency and international partners to interdict illicit narcotics in the international waters off South America in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Seven suspected smugglers were transferred to federal custody and face prosecution by the U.S. Department of Justice.
