The 'Stena Hibernia', while departing from Belfast had to be towed to safety by two tugs after it suffered an engine failure on the morning of Oct 12, 2024, at 9.30 a.m. en route to Heysham. It came to a halt off the coast of Holywood in County Down and dropped anchor, before being towed away for repairs. The ship suffered a complete loss of power during the scheduled departure from Belfast. The MRCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Almería was notified of a boat whch had stopped nine nautical miles from Mesa Roldán on Oct 12. The information was later confirmed by the Siva of the Guardia Civil. The 'Salvamar Spica' was mobilized to assist. It located the boat and rescued the 13 people on board. They were disembarked in Almería port.
FLYING CAT 6
On the afternoon of Oct 11, 2024, the Port Authority of Poros was informed by the Master of the'Flying Cat 6¨ that a mechanical failure occurred in the port side main engine while sailing towards the port of Poros en route from the port of Piraeus while serving the route Poros-Hydra-Ermioni-Spetses-Porto Heli with one 123 passengers on board. The ship sailed to the port of Poros and disembarked the passengers. The Port Authority of Poros initially prohibited the departure of the ferry. Upon presentation of a seaworthiness certificate from the monitoring classification society, a single voyage without cargo and passengers, to the port of Piraeus was allowed. The passengers were forwarded to their destination by the care of the company.
SALVAMAR NUNKI
The French sailing yacht 'Harmattan' issued a PAN PAN call 30 nautical miles northeast of Las Palmas on Oct 11, requesting assistance due to engine problems, with four people on board, among them two children. The CCS Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the 'Salvamar Nunki,' which locates the boat and towed it to the port of Las Palmas.
SALVAMAR MIZAR
The 'Salvamar Mizar' accompanied the occupants of a cayuco on the morning of Oct 9 five nautical miles south of La Restinga. It was located with 57 sub-Saharan people on board, including one minor. The disembarkation ended at 12:40 a.m. Canary time. The response was coordinated by the Rescue Centre of Salvamento Marítimo in Tenerife. OLYMPIC SPIRIT
On Oct 10, 2024, the 'Olympic Spirit', en route from Jeddah to Muscat, suffered three attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles in the Red Sea. One unknown projectile hit the ship as it was sailing close to the Eritrean coast at 12:10 a.m. GMT, about 70 nautical miles southwest of the port of Hodeidah. The projectile was likely an aerial drone that struck the ship’s bridge, causing light damage on its starboard side. Approximately four hours later, two additional projectiles detonated within 0.27 nautical miles of the vessel’s port side. The master of the vessel reported the tanker was hit by four projectiles, sustaining damage, but no fires or casualties were reported. The crew was reported safe and the vessel was proceeding to its next port of call.
CONNEMARA
On Oct 11 the 'Connemara' lost power just after 5 p.m. in one of its engines. The ferry was anchored in Wellington Harbour near the northern tip of Miramar Peninsula.The power was eventually restored, while a tug remained on standby in case the ferry needed assistance to berth. There were 435 people onboard the ferry.

PORT KYUSHU
The US Coast Guard coordinated efforts with the U.S. Air National Guard's 129th Rescue Wing and the U.S. Air Force's 563rd Rescue Group to medevac a crew member of the 'Port Kyushu' approximately 1000 miles west of Humboldt Bay, California, on Oct 9, 2024. On Oct 8 at 2:30 p.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard's Eleventh District Command Center received a report from the captain of the ship that the man was suffering from stroke-like symptoms. Watchstanders sent Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) notifications to request the assistance of any available nearby ships. When no vessels within 200 miles were able to respond, the watchstanders requested assistance from the 129th Rescue Wing based at Moffett Air National Guard Base, California, which launched two HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter aircrews and one HC-130 Hercules fixed wing aircrew. The 563rd Rescue Group based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, also launched one HC-130 Super Hercules fixed wing aircrew to respond. The ANG aircraft arrived and deployed a pararescueman, who completed a hoist from the vessel at approximately 4 p.m. and brought the mariner aboard the aircraft. The patient was then transported to Stanford Medical Center in Stanford, California, where he was last reported to be in stable condition.

The 'Salvamar Mizar' accompanied a cayuco, which navigated under its own means to the port of La Restinga. There the 158 people on board disembarked. The 'Guardamar Talía' rescued 54 people from another cayuco and transferred them to the port of San Sebastián de la Gomera.

The 'Capricho' requested towing assistance with two crew members on board on Oct 10, 2024, due to a problem with the engine and a lack of wind two nautical miles northeast of Lanzarote. The CCS Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR boat 'Salvamar Al-Nair', which took the yacht in tow and safely pulled it to the port of Arrecife. HMNZS MANAWANUI
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) on Oct 10 announced details of its Court of Inquiry (COI) into the sinking of the HMNZS 'Manawanui', while conducting a hydrographic survey one nautical mile from shore. The COI, which was due to assemble on Oct 11, will collect and record evidence and report on the sequence of events leading up to the loss of the ship, the cause of the grounding and subsequent sinking, and details on notification procedures, injuries sustained and any environmental damage. The COI has also been directed to consider any organizational aspects relevant to the loss and the material state of the 'Manawanui' before the grounding.

On Oct 12, the motor boat 'Caba IV', with two people on board, suffered an engine failure in Cap de Planes after the propeller was damaged. The boat had no propulsion and was in danger of running aground. The CCS Barcelona of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the 'Salvamar Sirius', which took the boat in tow and safely pulled it to the Marina Palamós.

On Oct 10, 2024, the 'Mein Schiff 2', bound for Malaga, requested the medical evacuation of a patient three nautical miles south of Mazarrón. The SAR helicopter Helimer 205 was mobilized by the CCS Almería of Salvamento Marítimo. The patient was embarked and transported to the airport, where he was picked up by an ambulance for further medical care in a hospital.
