BOHWA PIONEER
On March 14, 2025, the "Bohwa Pioneer" was drydocked at the Volkswerft Maritime Industrial and Business Park for repairs, being the largest freighter ever repaired by the Strela Shiprepair after having suffered a damage to its rudder system. The ship sailed from Uddevalla on March 12. At the yard, the rudder blade and rudder stock will be dismantled, and the rudder bearings will be inspected. The entire steering gear will be inspected and repaired. The propeller and tail shaft will also be removed to determine the overall extent of the damage.
QUEEN OF OAK BAY
The 'Queen of Oak Bay' suffered a mechanical issue impacting the service on the Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay route on March 31, 2025. At least two sailings have been cancelled after the ferry broke down outside Nanaimo's Departure on the morning due to a mechanical difficulty with the vessel's steering system. Affected were the departure at 8:25 a.m. from Departure Bay and the scheduled 10:40 am. sailing from Horseshoe Bay. TAfter repairs the sailings were expected to resume as scheduled at 1 p.m.
DISNEY MAGIC
The 'Disney Magic', en route from Miami to San Juan, suffered a major leak stemming from the floor of deck 5 on the afternoon of March 29. Water was falling from the ceiling near the chandelier lights in the main atrium, meaning it was leaking from deck 5 all the way down to deck 3. You can watch a video of the leakage below: The leakage was still ongoing on March 30 and has worsened. The floors 3/4/5 amidships were closed with activities cancelled/moved and passengers also need edto go to other decks to go from forward to aft. Some people in the 6500s cabins had to change rooms and were given some sort of compensation. WARSHIP 111
The USS 'Spruance (DDG 111)' rescued 17 migrants and an American national aboard a disabled and adrift vessel approximately 50 miles southwest of San Diego on April 30, 2025. A 35–foot vessewas spotted in international waters taking on water and requesting assistance around 7:55 a.m. The 'Spruance' launched a 7-meter rigid hull inflatable boat to assist. The 18 people were rescued from the water and safely aboard the destroyer. Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector San Diego then launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to transport the castaways from the 'Spruance' to the Coast Guard Sector San Diego. They were brought to Sector San Diego over two separate flights due to passenger constraints and then transferred to Department of Homeland Security partners. CLEAN VISION
Just days after the EU banned the transshipment of Russian LNG, Russia deployed four LNG tankers, the 'Nikolay Urvantsev' (IMO: 9750660) and the 'Vladimir Rusanov' (IMO: 9750701), both controlled by the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd, which rendezvoused with the 'Lena River' (IMO: 9629598) and 'Clean Vision' for an unusual double ship-to-ship transfer at the Kildin anchorage near Murmansk. The vessels were carrying supercooled gas from the Yamal LNG project operated by Russian company Novatek. The four vesselswere pairing up just south of Kildin island between March 28 and March 31, 2025. An STS transfer routinely takes around 36-48 hours. The 'Lena River' had departed from China at the end of 2024. The vessel subsequently idled for weeks in the North, Celtic and Barents Seas. The 'Clean Vision' had left from Mirs Bay near Shenzhen on Feb 21. The 'Nikolay Urvantsev' and 'Vladimir Rusanov' both had sailed from the Yamal LNG plant around a week ago.
VOLCAN DE TAUCE
On its long repositioning journey to Dubai, the "Volcán de Tauce" has been docked in Port Louis since March 28, arriving after its previous stop in Cape Town, where it had sailed on March 18. Without changing its name, the ferry had departed the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Feb 27, where the vessel was handed over to the Emirates International Air Cargo of the United Arab Emirates on Feb 19. SHENG PING HAI
On March 27, 2025, a crew member of the 'Sheng Ping Hai' was injured and needed a medical evacuation on the Hudson River. Just before 7 p.m. the Coast Guard’s New York Command Center received a distress call from the vessel which was southwards on the river near Catskill. A 23-year-old male crew member, the fourth assistant engineer from China, had sustained a spinal injury while working. The ship had just departed Albany and was en route to Barranquilla. After consulting with an on-call flight surgeon, the Coast Guard determined a medical evacuation was necessary and called on the Sheriff’s Office for help. Deputies quickly mobilized, coordinating with the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter 'Wire' from Saugerties and members of Diaz Memorial Ambulance Service. The Sheriff’s patrol vessel 'M27' pulled alongside the moving bulk carrier just south of the Saugerties Lighthouse. As the ship maintained its course downriver, responders successfully transferred the injured sailor using a rescue basket, carefully lowering him onto the Sheriff’s vessel. The victim was then brought ashore to the Coast Guard’s Saugerties station, where he was placed into a waiting ambulance and transported to Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. The US Coast Guard was investigating the circumstances that led to the injury. CARNIVAL SUNSHINE
The 'Carnival Sunshine' received an inspection score of 89 during a routine health check conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on March 8 as part of the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP), flagged 26 violations. Among the most serious were reports of a food service employee continuing to work while experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal illness, insects found in food service areas, and refrigeration failures that compromised safe food storage. The CDC noted cockroaches and fruit flies in multiple galleys and food preparation areas, including sightings beneath equipment and near dishwashing stations. In a detailed inspection report, the CDC cited several equipment issues, including malfunctioning refrigeration units that allowed potentially hazardous foods—like sandwiches and raw meatballs—to rise above safe temperature thresholds. Additional problems included worn gaskets on ice machines, leaking water lines, damaged flooring, and disrepair of food-contact surfaces. While the ship did pass the inspection, it still must submit a corrective action plan to the CDC.
SOLONG
The owner of the 'Solöng' said on March 31 that he was setting up a fund for potential lawsuits over the allision wit the 'Stena Immaculate'. The MS Solong Schiffahrtsgesellschaft M & Co KG, a subsidiary of Ernst Russ, which owns the container ship, was sued at London’s High Court on that day by the operators of the 'Stena Immaculate'. The Ernst Russ subsidiary brought a separate case at the specialist Admiralty Court seeking a limitation of liability. That case is being brought against the Dutch logistics firm Samskip, which previously said the 'Solong' was carrying Samskip containers, and all other persons claiming or being entitled to claim loss or damage over the allision. Ernst Russ was setting up a limitation fund, which will be available for parties who have verified claims against the 'Solong'’s owner. The incident occurred in territorial waters of the UK and there are interested parties and potential claimants residing in the UK, such as public authorities, hence the setting up of a fund in the UK is the most appropriate way forward. The owners of the 'Solong' were seeking to face claims and ensure a fund is available for any proven claims. The fund provides necessary security for potential claimants’ claims. On April 1 the 'Fure Vyl' was attended by the tug 'Svitzer Laura' (IMO: 9234147 ), while the tugs 'Brage Viking' (IMO: 9475791 ) and 'Triton' (IMO: 9451537 ) were moored in the vicinity of the 'Stena Immaculate'.

GOLDEN CARRIER
The deal between Unity Line and A-Ships is at risk of falling apart. During the voyage to Perama, the 'Golden Carrier' suffered some mechanical problems, which made both the crew and the shipping company doubt the condition of the ship and whether it is profitable to repair and renovate her at all. The ferry has arrived in Perama on April 1, and rumors wsre starting to spread that either Unity Line will take her back to the Baltic Sea and return the money to the Greeks, or the ship will be sold for scrapping if the damage proves to be too serious for the Polish shipping company.
LIBURNA
The 'Liburna' end her career with the Toremar company on Feb 23, 2025, after 35 years of service between Livorno and the island of Capraia. She is currently undergoing extensive renovations and adaptations for international navigation to prepare her for her new role as part of the Moby fleet in Gestione Bacini's Ercolino II dry dock in the port of Livorno. The ship will enter service on the route between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio under the name 'Bunifazziu', the Corsican version of the city's name. The ferry will receive the classic Moby livery, featuring the iconic blue whale and easily recognizable branding.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION
The 'Carnival Celebration', which was set to depart from Miami on March 30, 2025, at 4 p.m. EST, had the departure delayed by roughly 30 minutes due to a rain storm, the vessel was continuously hit by the storm while exiting the port, causing extensive flooding on upper decks. It was raining so hard that water from decks 17 and 18 were flooding down into the pool area on deck 16. Supervisors were on all the decks as the rain was coming inside. At deck 18 they had to block doorways with piles of towels to stop water from coming into the elevator lobby. The internet was fully shut down on the ship as lightnings continued to strike close by. The crew tried to step in to help by attempting to sweep the excess water out of the guests way, but considering the rate of the rainfall this was largely unsuccessful. So far, no injuries or major damages have been reported. The weather has cleared up and the ship continued sailing to its first stop in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, as planned with calls at San Juan, Puerto and St. Thomas, before returning to Miami on April 6. ZEYNEP KIRAN
On March 31, 2025, the "Zeynep Kiran" was stopped on its way from Klaipeda to Blainville sur Orne in the locks of the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Hiltenau. After the freighter moored in the south lock in Kiel-Holtenau at around 6 a.m., a laser measurement of the ship's height revealed a height of 40.33 meters. The permitted height is 40 meters due to the bridge clearances. Tugs pulled the ship back to the roadstead, where ballast water was taken on. After three hours, so much water had been pumped into the ship that the stern was deep enough, while at the same time the maximum permissible draft of 9.5 meters was not reached. The second attempt began shortly after 12 p.m. The tugs "Parat" and "OSK Rendsburg" pulled the "Zeynep Kiran" back into the south lock. This time, the laser measurement on the main mast showed a height of 39.58 meters, and the ship was permitted to enter the canal shortly before 1 p.m. Report with photo: https://www.kn-online.de/lokales/kiel/frachter-bei-hoehenkontrolle-in-der-schleuse-in-kiel-gestoppt-W4BXG2IOAJCUBNPNU7OGIAD6PQ.html
