Ferry broke down again
On Dec 16 at around 04:30, the ferry “Volcán de Tauce” suffered engine trouble and was sailing at a speed of just over nine knots between La Palma and Tenerife and at approximately 2 p.m. when it was already in front of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the tugs “VB Canarias” and “VB Balear” came to assist it in the docking manoeuvre at the Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea terminal, just a few days after the ship had completed repairs, lasting three weeks, in the East dock after an engine failure. The Armas Trasmediterránea Group replaced the “Volcán de Tauce” again with the catamaran “Volcán de Teno”, which started operating the service on the afternoon of Dec 17 from the port of Los Cristianos.
Engine repairs completed
The “Volcán de Tauce” has started sea trials on Dec 12 off the coast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, having completed the engine repair that has kept it immobilized since Nov 26. On Dec 13 the ship will rejoin the La Palma line at 6 p.m., making the direct trip from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to that of Santa Cruz de La Palma via the Roques de Anaga route. It will arrive on Dec14 at around 1 a.m., and at 3 a.m. it will resume service with the port of Los Cristianos. On Jan 1, 2025, the high-speed service of the Armas Trasmediterránea Group will begin with the incorporation of the catamaran ferry “Volcán de Tirajana”. The mobile ramp that it requires for its operation is already located in the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Ferry suffered breakdown
Due to an engine breakdown of the “Volcán de Tauce”, the ship has been out of service and has been docked in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife since Nov 26. The staff of Tenerife Shipyards was working on the resolution of the problem. The ferry was replaced by a catamaran, with a smaller capacity. The company was trying to alleviate the situation with the means at its disposal. The ferry remained stationary as of Dec 5.
