World’s Largest Goliath Gantry Crane installed at shipyard

Mon Jul 14 09:16:34 CEST 2014 arnekiel

The world’s largest Goliath gantry crane at Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil has been made by Konecranes. These cranes have a lifting capacity of 2,000 tons and rail span of 210 meters. One of the most important variables in the productivity of a shipyard is the size and completeness of the blocks that make up the hull. When a big hull block needs lifting, it’s time for the Goliath Gantry Crane to take over. Tandem use of Konecranes Goliath Gantry Cranes improves safety and flexibility during dry dock. With a master-and-slave configuration, both cranes are controlled by one operator, from one control station. This eliminates the safety risks of two operators. Petrobras, Mitsui to study LNG import terminal in Brazil's south

Fri Apr 18 10:03:27 CEST 2014 arnekiel

Brazil's state-run oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA and Japanese trading house Mitsui Corp will study building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the country's southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul, to supply more fuel for local manufacturers and power generators. Petrobras, as the company is known, announced the plan in a statement late on Tuesday after signing a memorandum of understanding on the project with Mitsui and the government of Rio Grande do Sul. Petrobras, Mitsui and the government have 12 months to conclude their work. If built, the plant would be Petrobras' fourth LNG import terminal and make it easier for the company to supply gas to power plants in the country's south. The plants are usually turned on to complement hydroelectric power during peak use periods and during dry seasons or drought. Brazil is in the middle of one of the most serious droughts in decades and has been forced to shut several gas-fired power plants for a lack of natural gas. Source: Reuters

World’s largest Goliath gantry crane arrive in Rio Grande do Sul

Thu Aug 23 19:48:26 CEST 2012 arnekiel

August 23 – The world’s largest Goliath gantry crane arrived at its destination in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, last week on two vessels operated by Jumbo Shipping of the Netherlands. Ordered by Engevix Construções Oceânicas and built by Konecranes in Finland and South Korea, the complete crane weighs around 6,506 tonnes with a lifting capacity of 2,000 tonnes and rail span of 210 m, making it the biggest Goliath gantry crane in the world. During June, the Jumbo vessel Fairpartner finished loading the Goliath gantry crane in Mokpo, South Korea. At roughly the same time, the shipping company’s Stellaprima loaded an upper and lower trolley belonging to the same crane in Hanko, Finland. Installation at the Polo Naval do Rio Grande shipyard is scheduled to be finished at the end of this year after which it will be used initially to assemble eight hulls of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) ships for offshore oil production projects. http://www.heavyliftpfi.com/content/NewsItem.aspx?id=4626
