SUMBER JAYA MAKMUR 8
On Oct 31, 2024, the Biak SAR Office received a report that a crew member from the KM 'Sumber Samudra Jaya-8' had fallen over board in pos.0°50'0.00’ N 136°42'0.00’ E* in the northern waters of Padaidori Island, Padaido Islands, Biak, and launched an SAR operation. The victim was named Misbahul Munir, a 22-year-old man. The Biak SAR Office appealed to all ships travelling through these waters to increase surveillance and observation of signs of the victim's whereabouts, asked to immediately provide assistance and report the findings to the Syahbandar Office or the nearest Port Operational Radio Station (SROP).
MUTIARA KENCANA
The KLM 'Mutiara Kencana', which had departed from Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, bound for Selat Panjang, sank in the waters around Karimun Anak on Oct 26, 2024, at 6:15 a.m. WIB, due to severe weather conditions that caused a breach in the hull. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and all crew members were successfully rescued. The patrol boat 'BC 20003', operating in the Karimun waters, spotted several people adrift at sea and initiated an SAR operation. The six crew members were all recovered from the water, and the crew of the patrol boat provided first aid on-site. Subsequently it transported all survivors to the Meral Customs Office for further assistance. The 'Mutiara Kencana' has completely sunk along with its cargo in pos. 01°11.478' N 103°28.137' E.
ERA STAR
On Nov 1, 2024, at around midnight, the 'Era Star', loaded with LPG, was in head-on-collision with the cargo m/v 'Mizan, with eight crew members on board and loaded with 500 tons of coal, while transiting the Pashur Channel near Bagerhat, Bangladesh. No major damage was reported on the 'Era Star'. The 'Mizan' suffered significant damage to its bow with ensuing water ingress. The crew feared the vessel would sink and abandoned ship into the water. Al eight made it to shore. A nearby fishing vessel, which had been caught up in the collision, sank. The sole person on board was missing. The Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted an SAR operation A diving team was deployed to the accident site. The 'Mizan' has meanwhile started lightering the cargo onto another vessel.
FATIMA III
On the evening of Oct 27, 2024, at 8.37p.m. LT a crew member of the KM 'Fatima III' fell over board in the Surabaya West Shipping Channel (APBS) . The crew spotted the man around one cable from the starboard side, and he drifted toward Buoy 22, eventually moving in the direction of Teluk Lamong. The Tanjung Perak Maritime Safety and Security Center (PLP) was notified and immediately coordinated with several relevant agencies, including the Tanjung Perak Port Authority (KSOP), VTS Surabaya, Basarnas Surabaya, and Surabaya Pilotage. The patrol boats 'KNP 329' and 'KNP 371' were deployed to conduct SAR operations at the location.
