Rudder failure on the Maas

Wed Feb 19 10:51:28 CET 2014 Timsen

On Feb 18, 2014, the "Altamar" after having left the port of Rotterdam at 10.40 a.m., suffered rudder failure at the height of the Maas lock at the Rozenburg side. The ship was emergency anchored off a dam. The "RPA 12" arrived at the position 20 minutes later, followed by the "ZP Chalone" which connected at the stern of the "Altamar" and held it until another 10 minutes later the "Limburgia" also was on scene and held the ship at the bow. The anchor chain of the "Altamar" was twisted as the ship was pulled to the Northen Waal Port in Rotterdam where it was moored at 1.15 p.m. Dutch reports with photos: http://www.tugspotters.com/site/content/2014/02/zp-chalone-en-limburgia-schieten-altamar-te-hulp/ http://www.tugspotters.com/site/content/2014/02/sleepboot-assistentie-aan-de-altamar-18-2-2014/
