On Dec 1, 2019, at 6 p.m., the CROSS Corsen was alerted after a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'RCC Passion' 40 nautical miles west of Ushant island. The ship had sailed from Le Havre the same day at 1.45 p.m. and was bound to Fort-de-France with 19 crew members and a cargo of 2.195 vehicles on board. An evaluation and intervention team (IEE)of six people including four firefighters, followed by six more firefighters were deployed by a Cayman helicopter of the French Navy. The emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon', which was prepositioned at the Bertheaume anchorage due to the deteriorated weather conditions. was mobilized to the ship too. The IEE was dropped off on board at 10:50 p.m. The ship's crew had already taken measures to combat the fire. There was a significant presence of smoke in the engine room. No injuries were reported. On Dec 2 at 2 a.m. the IEE confirmed to the maritime authorities the extinction of the fire. The engine room had to be ventilated before repairs can be undertaken. The "Abeille Bourbon" remained ready to take action close to the "RCC Passion". On Dec 3 around 1 a.m. the engines of the car carrier could be restarted, and the ship headed to Brest Dec 3 with about eight knots speed, escorted by the French emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon' on its way. It entered the port at 5.10 p.m. and subsequently docked at the QR 1 berth of the Damen Shiprepair Yard for cleaning of the engine room, investigations and repairs. The ship sailed again on Dec 6 at 10.20 p.m. and resumed the voyage to Fort-de-France with an ETA as of Dec 16.
