Captain fined for drunk sailing
A 38-year-old Dutch captain has been fined 56,000 Danish crowns and is got his licence revoked for one year after the 'Beaumaiden' ran aground on Oct 18, 2021, approximately 300 meters from the coast at Sorthat-Muleby. The man had a blood alcohol level of at least 1.55 per thousand when at the time of the accident. He left the bridge without anyone taking over. When the ship ran aground, no one had been on the bridge for four hours. In October 2022, he was charged in the case. He did not appear at the court hearing on jan 25, 2023. The captain can appeal the verdict within 14 days. If he does, the Eastern High Court will have to assess the case. If he does not appeal, the district court's judgment is final.
