Reefer disabled following fire

Mon Mar 26 22:30:49 CEST 2012 Timsen

The "Buenos Aires Express" suffered a fire in the engine room en route from South America to the Caribbean and US Gulf ports. The vessel is reportedly without power and without steering capability and is currently anchored off north east coast of Brazil. The vessel owners have contracted a tug with the intention of towing her to Caucedo, Dominican Republic for repairs. The towage operation was expected to start on Mar 25, 2012. The towing time to Caucedo was expected to be approximately 20 days. Cargo in reefer containers will almost certainly be a total loss due to the vessel being without power.
