Barge is being lightered

On Dec 28 lightering of the grounded "Wodan" has started to get the barge refloated. About 25 % of the cargo which consists of 2.000 tons rape will have to be loaded onto other ships. The work was expected to take until Dec 30, but the barge was already refloated on Dec 29 and berthed in Deggendorf in the midday hours.

Grounding at Niederalteich

On Dec 24, 2017, the "Wodan" (EU-No.: 02322749), enroute from Passau to Straubing, ran aground on the Danube at Niederalteich in the Deggendorf municipality due to an navagational mistake of the master which caused that the 185 meter long vessel, loaded with 2000 tons rape, veered to starbaord out of the fairway. The Bavarian police was alerted at 8 p.m. about the accident. Passing ships were advised to pass the grounding site with slow speed, salvage work was due to start on Dec 26.
