One of two crew members who fell into canal dead
Two crew member of the 'Vivaldi' fell over board in the morning of Noc 4, 2019, on the Boudewijn Canal between Zeebrugge and Bruges. The skipper of the ship had noticed around 6:30 a.m. that two of his crew members were not on board. He started searching for them and saw one of them lying in the water between the ship and the quay. The alerted emergency services rushed on site, and divers succeeded in pulling the 65-year-old man from Antwerp out of the water. He was resuscitated on the spot and taken to the hospital in a critical condition. Meanwhile, the emergency services continued to look for his companion. A sonar boat was also used. He was eventually recovered a little later. The Belgian man, aged 63, was dead. The precise circumstances of the accident were not immediately clear. The two might have gone out together.
