Barge in danger of sinking after grounding
Salvors of Multraship refloated the grounded push combination "Veerhaven IX" in the east port of Terneuzen in the night hours of Nov 21, 2014. The combination with two loaded and two empty barges was en route from Vlissingen to Gent when around 2:15 a.m., just after high tide, the combination ran aground. The tug "Multratug 19" was quickly on the spot and could pull the combination in deep water in spite of the falling water. The convoy was taken to the East Haven, where an inspection by divers was conducted and it was found that one of the barges which was loaded with coal was taking in water. The salvors immediately mobilized a diving team, pumps, sealing materials and the crane "Ovet 8" to avoid a sinking. The leak was temporarily patched, the barge unloaded into an empty one and the salvage Operation finished at 1.30 p.m. The damaged barge was taken to the shipyard De Schroef in Sluiskil for repairs.
