Oil spill during bunkering operation

Sun Jul 21 16:16:50 CEST 2024 Timsen

On July 18, 2024, the Maritime Captaincy of Ceuta has ordered the detention of the 'Tony Stark', en route from Bilbao to Manfredonia, after a fuel oil spill, estimated at one ton, had occurred during a bunkering operation from the Spanish flagged tanker 'Spabunker Cuarenta' (IMO: 9416886), on the port's anchorage in pos. 35° 54.67' N 005° 19.60' W. The SAR vessel 'Salvamar Atria' was depöpyed by Salvamento Marítimo to the scene, which deployed an oil boom, and the resources of the company Ecoceuta have extended this containment barrier at the stern of the vessels. An inspection was also being carried out by Captaincy inspectors within the PSC MoU to clarify what happened. Once the situation has been assessed, in the coming days, the Captaincy will open a sanctioning file and establish a guarantee before allowing the ship to resume its journey.
