Vehicles carrier disabled off Valencia

Thu Dec 22 09:20:27 CET 2016 Timsen

In the night of Dec 20, 2016, the "Tenerife Car" suffered engine failure in the Balearic Sea. The ship had left Barcelona on Dec 15, and was bound to Algeria. 27 miles southeast of Valencia, and about two to three miles off the coast, the ship suffered an engine breakdown at 6.45 p.m. at the height of Gandia. The sea was still somewhat disturbed by a storm, which had built aup a swell of more than four meters during the recent days, and it was feared the ship might be pushed onto the coast of Safor or Cullera. The lifeboat "SAR Mesana" of the local station of Salvamento Marítimo and tugs were called to assist the ship which was adrift in the sea with 17 people and a cargo of cars on board. The vehicles carrier was taken in tow to Valencia and docked at the vehicles terminal on Dec 21 at 8.20 a.m. Spanish report with photo: http://www.lasprovincias.es/sucesos/201612/22/salvamento-maritimo-rescata-barco-20161222000453-v.html
