Ship's master to be prosecuted due to offence against MARPOL regulations
During a control on July 25, 2014, officials of the Water Police in Wilhelmshaven found that the tanker had pumped out washing water overboard in Spanish waters. After having delivered a cargo of of methyl alcohol, the ship left Hvelva on May 11. At sea, the tank washing water was pumped overboard. Then the tanker returned to Hvelva to take on a new charge of sulfuric acid on board. A total of ten tons wash water and 439 liters of the chemical methyl alcohol were spilt into the sea. The officials of the Water Police Wilhelmshaven launched an investigation against the captain and the first officer, who had at the time the police was on board, however, were no longer on board.
