Collision off Bornholm
On May 6, 2017, the "VT Electron" with the barge "VT Stockholm", 14400 gt (IMO: 9006461) was in collision with the chemical tanker "Purple Gem" north of Bornholm. The police received the notification of the collision at 11.20 a.m. and headed to the position 25 miles northeast of the island. The tanker apparently was anchored with engine damage when she was hit by the tug wich pushed a coal barge. No injuries were reported. The barge sustained bow damage, the tanker damage at the port side stern. The police went out to inspect the damage and question the parties involved aboard a boat from Nexø rescue service. The "VT Electron" entered the port of Rønne on May 7 at 11.30 a.m. Human error aboard the tug was said to have caused the collision 16 miles north-northeast of Christiansø. The crew of the tug reported to the Bornholm police that they acted incorrectly, and there was a formal judicial aftermath. Tanker underway again
The "Purple Gem" raised anchor on Kiel roads on Apr 7 at 3 a.m. after repairs. The ship entered the locks of the Kiel Canal in Holtenau at 3.40 a.m. sailing westbound to Steenbank, ETA Apr 8.
Ship detained after repeated techical failure
On March 26, 2017, at 4.45 p.m the "Purple Gem" suffered an engine room telegraph failure when being about to enter the Kiel-Holtenau locks of the Kiel Canal westbound. The approach was aborted, and the ship dropped anchor on the Kiel Canal roads. At 7.55 p.m. another attempt was started after having previously tested it with success, but again the problems occurred, and the ship had to be stopped once more. The "Conmar Bay" also had to stop its approach of the locks as the "Purple Gem" was passing by. She drove around the "Conmar Bay" with low speed and anchorage again at 7.30 p.m. The ship was then detained for further investigations and was actually remaining moored off Kiel-Friedrichsort.
