Three ferries replacing damaged Sterna

Tue Jun 13 12:11:58 CEST 2017 Timsen

In the morning of June 13, the "Sterna" (IMO: 8685713) was replaced by the ferries "Falco" and "Replot 2". A new pontoon was installed at 8 a.m. so the route could be served normally again. During the day, also the "Odil" would joint the service. Midsummer traffic would be run by Finnferries as scheduled. The "Sterna" suffered damage at the flap attachment, and it was not yet clear how long the repair of the ferry would take. The master stated that the ship had not stopped in time, but this still had to be investigated according to normal routines. Ferry allided with poontoon in Lillmalö

Mon Jun 12 21:03:59 CEST 2017 Timsen

On June 12, 2017, at 3 p.m. the "Sterna", 1100 gt,allided with the pontoon at the ferry terminal in Lillmälö in Pargas. The shore side ramp suffered such severe damage that the 16 cars could not leave the ferry. The 21 passengers were disembarked at 6 p.m., some of them were medically checked and then cared for with beveries and snacks. The ferries "Falco", "Odil" and "Replot 2" were inserted as replacement on the Pargas - Nagu route. The Transport Safety Agency sent inspectors, and divers surveyed the situation under water. The intention was to stabilize the pontoon so that it could be loosened from the ferry which remained entangled with it. Then the ferry should reverse and proceed to the adjacent terminal to unload the cars which could take place in the evening.
