Ferry suffered mechanical issue with closing mechanism
The "Stena Nordica" developed a technical problem with the closing mechanism of its bow visor as it departed Fishguard for Rosslare on its scheduled 1.10 p.m. sailing on May 6, 2019. The inner watertight door was closed before departure but it was not possible to close this visor while the ship is still sitting on the berth. The vessel had to manoeuvre away from the berth to allow this to close. She returned to port and departed Fishguard to Rosslare again at 1.50 p.m. The mechanical issue was reported to the Marine and Coastguard Agency (MCA) by the captain of the ship. Stena Line adds fourth ro-pax ferry to Sweden-Poland route
Stena Line added a fourth ro-pax ferry – Stena Nordica – to the route between Karlskrona, Sweden and Gdynia, Poland at the start of October to enable it to cater for the increase in freight and passenger traffic. Stena Nordica replaces the cargo vessel that previously operated on the route alongside ro-pax ferries Stena Baltica, Stena Spirit and Stena Vision. This allows Stena Line to offer four daily departures from each port, which totals a record 46 per week. “We have had strong growth in recent years, and we are still experiencing a strong demand for increased capacity from both freight customers and passengers,” said Marek Kiersnowski, trade director for Stena Line’s Sweden-Poland route.
