Diesel spill after bridge allision

The "St. Rita" allided with the Östrich Bridge on the Weser-Datteln-Canal on Jan 3, 2012. The ship had got out of control in storm gusts and drifted against a bulkhead. The ship was breached on a length of five metres in the tank region. A diesel spill was caused by this. It could be moored at the shore, and the captain called police and fire resuce. Due to the stormy weather it was impossible to drain off the remaining fuel on site, and it was decided to move the ship to Hünxe in the evening where mooring space was available.
