Suit filed after cargo ship destroyed dock

Wed May 02 11:01:59 CEST 2012 Timsen

The owner of a fishing dock has filed suit against the owners of the "King Yukon" which crashed into the dock and destroyed it. It collided with the fishing vessels "Captain Scott", "Little Angel and "Lucky Aaron" and struck the dock. The defendant Eastern Cross Shipping owned the King Yukon while defendant Aboitiz Jebsen managed the ship and defendant Sabine Pilot Service operated it, according to the complaint filed April 17, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court. Because of the incident, the dock owner lost earnings and incurred property damages, the suit states. He blames the defendants for allowing the incident to occur, saying their ship's captain negligently failed to control speed, failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to avoid a collision with another vessel and failed to drive the ship in a safe manner. In his complaint, he is seeking actual and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
