The "Sluisgracht" was refloated by the tugs "Union Emerald", "Union Topaz" and "Multratug 10" at 4 p.m. May 18, and subsequently towed to Antwerp.

The "Sluisgracht" ran aground on the Carolus bank, 5 miles northwest of Cadzand, in the morning of May 18, 2010, at 8.45. The ship was carrying a cargo of 18600 tons clay from China and was underway to Antwerp when it suffered machine damage in the Westerscheldt approach. In the midday hours a salvage attempt was to be started. A tug was underway as well as a rescue boat from Cadzand and the Coast Guard vessel "Barend Biesheuvel".
