Blohm Voss chosen as repair yard
On Aug 27 at 11.15 a.m. the "Katja" had left its deep water anchorage off Wilhelmshaven and was docked at Blohm & Voss Yard in Hamburg for repairs of the hull damage suffered in the grounding off Minsener Oog/Wangerooge.
Tanker's pilot was warned before grounding
The "Katja" had been warned from a possible accident before running aground at Minsener Oog according to the initial investigations of the water police. There have been no failures in the Wilhelmshaven traffic center while monitoring the ship traffic. In fact, there was an "advisory sea pilot" in the traffic center, who had supported his colleagues on board the ill-fated ship. Appropriate references regarding the dangerous course of the vessel had not been implemented on board the "Katja" for reasons still unknown. Jurisdicial proceedings have been launched against the captain and the pilot on board. The "Katja" meanwhile remains anchored on the Deep Water Roads off Heligoland.
