Water ingress on the Weststrand on the Rhine

Wed Apr 24 11:14:24 CEST 2019 Timsen

In the afternoon of April 20, 2019, the fire brigades of Oberwesel and St. Goarshausen were alerted, after the "Weststrand", 878 ts (EU-No.: 4030830; MMSI-No.: 211508200 CS: DC6222), had suffered a water ingress in the foreship on the Rhine. The forces were deployed to the river km 551. Upon their arrival, the ship was already heading towards the Loreley trying to reach the Loerely port. Due to the massive water ingress in the bow region this was, howver, impossible. Escorted by the "RLP 9" of the fire brigade, the ship could be berthed at the quay wall in St.Goarshausen where dewatering pumps were activated. After the situation was under control, the fire brigade Oberwesel could be stood down. As the pumps could cope with the flooding, the ship was allowed to proceed to Koblenz where a diver was to patch the leak.
