Container ship assisted distressed migrants
The 'Cap San Augustin' located a boat with 52 people of sub-Saharan origin, including six women and a child, who were drifting in a rubber boat on July 16 at 8.45 a.m. after having departed from Morocco on July 15. Salvamento Marítimo was notified and deployed the SAR vessel 'Salvamar Al Nair'. The container ship remained on standby until its arrival at 9:20 a.m. With the migrants on board, the vessel is heading towards Arrecife, where they wree disembarked at around 11:00 a.m. at the La Cebolla pier.
Allision in Hamburg
In the morning of Dec 2, 2014, at 06:50 a.m. the Cyprus flagged container m/v "Rita" was in collision with the "Cap San Augustin" in the Waltershof Port in Hamburg. The "Rita" was shifting with pilot'a assistance from the Container Terminal Altenwerder to the Burchard Quay. While turning around in the Waltershof Port, she hit the "Cap San Augustin" which was berthed at the quay. The starboard side wheelhouse of the "Rita" was dented, the "Cap San Augustin" suffered scratches. The sailing ban pronounced by the Water Police has meanwhile been lifted while the investigations were going on. At 1 p.m. the "Rita" left the port bound for Tananger, followed by the "Cap San Augustin" at 2 p.m. which headed for Antwerp.
Delivery of 9,669 teu CAP SAN AUGUSTIN
The German container line Hamburg Süd, a specialist carrier for the trade between the northern and southern hemispheres, has taken delivery of the 9,669 teu container vessel CAP SAN AUGUSTIN. The ship is number four in Hamburg Süd’s series of larger high-reefer vessels designed for the South America trades. Hamburg Süd ordered another three large container ships at Hyundai Heavy in June, which are believed to be further sisters of the ‘Cap San’ type and which would take the series to 13 vessels.
