Bulker adrift in Narvik

Wed Apr 08 12:32:37 CEST 2015 Timsen

The "Samjohn Legacy" which was docked in Narvik broke from its moorings in wind gusts at 26.4 m/sec, and began to drift into the harbor basin on Apr 7, 2015, at 7 p.m. It allided with the new built LKABs quay 7, and was just meters away from a clash with the LKABs quay 3/4. One hour later the situation was under control. Two LKAB tugboats reacted uickly and got stopped the uncontrolled voyage of the ship which was maneuvered out of the harbor basin and secured outside Framnesodden, assisted by three tugs. Early on Apr 8 the LKAB quay 7 was inspected and it was found out that some rubber on the construction had taken much of the beating and the construction otherwise had suffered little damage.
