RIX AMBER 9171101

Sat Jan 26 20:37:05 CET 2013 Timsen

In the morning of Jan 26, 2013, at 6.30 a.m. the "Nordica" allided with two gates of the small Northern lock of the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Holtenau, one of which was severely damaged. The ship had suffered an engine failure and was unable to go Astern when entering the lock. The ship was enroute from Sczcecin via Vierow East to Boston. The ship proceeded to the Voith Quay in Kiel for investigations at 9.30 a.m. It was escorted by the SFK-tug "Kiel". The lock had to be closed for ship traffic after the accident leaving only the large locks in service as the second small lock was already out of service for repairs.
