Container loss in collision off Maassluis

Fri Dec 06 10:31:10 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'River Drone 5' , en route from Rotterdam to the Gent Canal, was in collision with the container ship 'Containerships VIII' (IMO: 9336244), which was en route from the Prins Willem Alexander Haven to the Hutchison ECT Delta Terminal in Rotterdam, on Het Scheur at Maaassluison Dec 5, 2024, at around 06:15 a,m, A number containers fell into the water from the autonomous vessel, which was manned at that time, and washed up on the Koning Willem-Alexander Boulevard in Maassluis. The containers were empty, and one of the boxes was open, causing it to fill with water. Due to the receding water, four containers have since got stuck. Boats from the port authority were looking for more containers; on the Maassluis side. The patrol boat 'RWS 71' of Rijkswaterstaat was monitoring the site. The crane ship 'Hebo Cat 7' was tasked with the recovery of the containers. The 'Containerships VIII' berthed at the terminal at 7 a.m. Reports with photos: https://www.rijnmond.nl/nieuws/1933444/schepen-botsen-containers-belanden-in-het-water https://westlanders.nu/nieuws/zeecontainers-in-de-nieuwe-waterweg-2/ https://www.hartvannederland.nl/112/ongeluk/artikelen/schip-verliest-containers-aanvaring-ander-schip-maassluis
