Drunk master arrested after allision

Fri Jan 17 10:50:34 CET 2020 Timsen

On Jan 15, 2020, at 9.20 p.m. the‘Rhenus Krems‘, 1130 ts (EU-No.: 06002434), enroute from Groß-Krotzenburg to Regensburg, allided with the Main ferry ‘Stadt Seligenstadt‘ (ENI-No.: 04808450) at Seligenstadt which was berthed at the left river shore. Residents heard the crash and alerted the police which tried to get in contact with the master of the barge without response. The guard of the lock Kleinostheim, three kilometers away from the accident site, was informed and stopped the 'Rhenus Krems' upon its approach. The 56 year old master was blood tested and an alcohol level of 2,13 per thousand determined. He was arrested as a consequence. When being released on Jan 16 at midday, his driving licence was withdrawn. The owner was to send a new master, and the ship remained moored above the lock as of Jan 17. The damage to the ferry was investigated on Jan 16, and it was fonud that the car ramp was bent, but could still be operated, so the ferry was released to return to the service to Karlstein at 2.15 p.m. German reports with photos: https://www.fr.de/rhein-main/kreis-offenbach/gueterschiff-rammt-faehre-seligenstadt-13445951.html https://www.op-online.de/region/seligenstadt/seligenstadt-unfall-drama-main-schiff-rammt-mainfaehre-zr-13444553.html
