Lifeboats mobilized to grounded yacht
On Oct 11, 2024, at 9.40 p.m. the PG Traung' and 'Stig Wadström' were alerted by the JRCC at 21:30 after the sailing yacht 'Passion', a Beneteau Oceanis 40.1, had run aground in the port entrance in Grönhögen in southwestern Öland. Shortly before arriving at the accident site, the lifeboat crews were informed that the colleagues at the rescue station Grönhögen had already evacuated all the people on board. As the boats were almost there, they continued to see if they could assist in any way. The sailboat was firmly aground in the three meter high surf,. so that that towing attempts could not be done in a safe way. The heavily damaged yacht was lifted ashore on Oct 15. It was only then that the extent of the damage became apparent. The hull and large parts of the interior fittings of the relatively new boat were completely missing. They were obviously crushed on the port jetty during the sinking. Some subassemblies, such as the forward wet room, are only held by the pipes and are swinging under the boat. The hull-deck connection was broken.
