Fri Apr 04 11:17:47 CEST 2014 arnekiel

Coming from Callao, the "Trans Catalonia", while proceeding to pier 1-A at Matarani. allided with the "Fairchem Silver", which had come from Mejillones on Apr 1 and which was loading ethanol at pier 1-C on Apr 2, 2014, at 06.30 a.m. The accident happened when the "Trans Catalonia" was maneouvering inside the turning basin and suffered an engine failure. The "Fairchem Silver" heavily bumped against the pier 1-C when hit by the "Trans Catalonia", which caused the vessel to break off its moorings. The "Trans Catalonia" suffered signicant damage at the starboard bow. The "Fairchem Silver" spilled some ethanol. After one hour the spill was stopped as the ethanol volatilized to a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. The cause of the allision was presently under investigation by local authorities and both vessels were under class surveys, inspections, statements before HM, etc. while both vessels remained at their berths at Matarani-TISUR.
