One missing, eight saved one of whom died, after Poline capsized in storm
The chief engineer has been reported missing after the "Poline" with a Russian-Ukrainian crew on board overturned and sank in the Sea of Japan on Sep 4, 2014. A search operation was being conducted by the freighter Aldan (IMO: 8603389), the bulkcarrier "Golden Suek" (IMO: 9438614), the boxship "Hanjin Newport" (IMO: 9404194), the bulker "Simferopol" (IMO: 9466881) and the Japanese patrol ship "Daisen". The "Aldan" rescued five, sailors picking them from a lifeboat, the "Golden Suek" rescued two as well as the "Hanjin Newport", one of them, the 2nd engineer, died later. The "Poline", loaded with timber, was en route from Plastun in the Primorsky Territory to China, when she capsized in a heavy storm.
