Discussion about cause of grounding
After the "Polfoss" was in Sandnessjøen, a police patrol went on board to question the mate and captain for questioning. The captain asked the police totake blood samples so that the crew of nine could not be suspected to have caused the vessel grounding with alcohol consumption. After the crew was breathalyzed, there was no suspicion of drinking. Possibly the captain who had been asleep when the accident happened had stated in a first explantion that the first officer must have dozed off. If he really did, will have to be found out in the investigation. After an inspection in port, the ship will continue to Ålesund as planned. Grounding with full speed
Enroute Tromsoe-Alesund the "Polfoss" ran aground at Austbø in Alstahaug in the morning of Nov 16, 2012. Data indicated that the ship ran ashore at full speed, approximately 13 knots. The crew alerted the MRCC at 6:37 a.m. There was neither danger to the crew of nine nor the ship which was carrying 1,800 tons of frozen fish. The ship was resting on sandy bottom. With the next flood at 11.15 a.m a salvage attempt was undertaken and the ship refloated. The tugs "Boa Siw" and "Boa Tyr" escorted it from the grounding site at the northern end of Sørøya at Altra to Sandnessjøen where it docked at noon. The "Polfoss" had sailed from Stamsund on Nov 15 at 6 p.m. Norwegian reports with photos: http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/nordland/1.8398685 http://www.hblad.no/nyheter/article6345121.ece
