Drunken master forgot to put on the lights
In the night of Oct 30 the "Paul Burmester" entered the Brunsbüttel locks of the Kiel Canal unlit. This caused the local police to board the ship and remarked, that the captain was drunk with a BAC of 1,68. The ship which carried a cargo of 1208 tons diesel fuel was immediately arrested and was ordered to be moved from the locks back into the inner port of Brunsbüttel. The tanker was bound from there to Hamburg. The ship was allowed to resume its voyage on Oct 30 around noon and berthed in Hamburg Entenwerder on Oct 31 at 6.30 a.m. An investigation was launched against the master.
