Disabled tanker towed to Algecíras

Wed Mar 27 18:50:00 CET 2019 Timsen

The 'Oryx Trader' was disabled and adrift on the coast of La Línea de la Concepción when it was about to enter the Bay of Algeciras on March 26, 2019, due to an engine breakdown two miles east of Gibraltar. In stormy weather conditions it was anchored 0.8 miles from the coast at Punta de la Torre. Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the tug 'María Zambrano', as well as the 'Salvamar Denébola', which finally did not have to intervene. The ship was taken in tow at 3 p.m., and at 9:40 p.m., the 'Oryx Trader' was finally able to dock at the Isla Verde quay in the Port of Algeciras. Also the port tug "Juan González", the "VB Siroco" and "VB Algeciras" assisted in the docking manoever. The ship had sailed from Valletta on March 18 at 5.50 p.m. On April 15 at 4.30 p.m. it shifted to the Pantalan Alpetrol. It left the port again on April 17 at 3.45 a.m. and headed to Freetown, ETA April 23.
