Cargo ship disabled and adrift, crew member injured during repair

Sun Jan 15 13:19:53 CET 2017 Timsen

In the night of Jan 13, 2017, the "Nordvåg", coming from Frederikshavn and being enroute to Maløy with a crew of nine aboard, suffered engine failure just north of the Sognefjord and drifted towards the shore at Krakhellesundet. The wind was blowing from northwest with 14 meters per second. Florø radio recceived a mayday call and alerted the lifeboat "Halfdan Grieg". Upon its arrival the cargo ship, however, already had received assistance from another ship and was in the middle of the fairway. The ship was taken under tow to Lutelnandet, escorted by the lifeboat. The next morning work to repair the engine commenced. When a compressor would be raised on board the boat, things went wrong, and a man in the 60s was injured around 10 a.m. The man received first aid until the ambulances were in place. The police were not notified until 1 p.m. Two hours later a police patrol from Høyanger warrived and found out that the injuries were not life-threatening. The man was sent to Haukeland University Hospital by air ambulance. The Norresundby Shipping AS sent representatives to Lutelandet in the night. The police was investigating the accident. The vessel left the port of Maløy on Jan 16 at 3.15 a.m. after repairs and headed to Aalesund wher she berthed on Jan 16 at 9 a.m. Norwegian reports with photos: http://www.bt.no/nyheter/lokalt/Mann-skadet-i-ulykke-da-lastebat-sokte-nodhavn-328895b.html https://www.nrk.no/sognogfjordane/frakteskip-med-ni-personar-dreiv-mot-land-1.13322113
