35 migrants missing in another tragedy

Thu Jun 22 11:29:47 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Navios Azure' assisted in the rescue of 24 migrants after the sinking of a rubber boat with 60 occupants on board. One baby was recovered dead, and 35 people were missing 162 kilometers south of Gran Canaria. The MRCC in Morocco coordinated the response, and the patrol boat 'Al Mansour' has managed to rescue 24 migrants, some of whom were in the water. The Spanish SAR helicopter Helimer 201, sent from the Canary Islands, has recovered the body of the baby from the area of the shipwreck and transferred it to the Gran Canaria airport. The zodiac had departed with 60 people on board, including six women and a minor, from Cape Bojador. On June 20 at 7:53 p.m. a Maritime Rescue plane located it following a telephone call for help. The 'Navíos Azure' approached the rubber boat and remained next to it until the time of the shipwreck 75 kilometers from the Sahara coast.
