Passenger who fell over board named

On Oct 16,, the Colombian consultate in London named the woman who went overboard from the 'MSC Virtuosa' north of Les Casquets rocks, west of Alderney, early on Oct 12, as Jessica Andrea Gómez Granda. The 28-year-old Colombian national was identified with authorities in Paris and her family had been notified. The cruise ship docked in Southampton on Oct 12 at around 8 a.m., following its journey from Cartagena.

Woman recovered dead after falling over board

A woman has died after falling overboard from the 'MSC Virtuosa' on Oct 12 at 12.55 a.m. off the coast of the Channel Islands en route from Lisbon to Southampton, UK. Alarms sounded, and senior ship crew announced over the intercom that a person had fallen overboard on the port side. Spotlights lit up the sea at the site just north of Les Casquets rocks, near the Island of Alderney. The ship turned around 180 degrees to trace back the route. 'At 1.30 a.m. an announcement was made by cruise director announcing a missing passenger and that their thoughts were with the family of this passenger. 'Helicopters and coast guards began to arrive just after 2 a.m. 'Infra-red cameras were used to locate the person. The passengers body was winched into helicopter around 2.30 a.m. A French Navy helicopter coordinated the SAR operation, and was supported by aircraft from the Channel Islands. Medevac off Tarragona

On the morning of Oct 7 the MSC Virtuosa', en route from Barcelona to Valencia, requested the medevac of a passenger who had fallen ill and needed medical crae in a hopstial. The SAR boat 'Salvamar Fomalhaut' (MMSI: 225987905) was deployed from Tarragona and transferred the patient to the port. The response was coordinated by the MRCC in Tarragona. The cruise ship berthed in Valencia some time later.
