Saint Lucia aims to enhance cruise tourism offering
The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Invest Saint Lucia, and the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority have joined forces to train cruise service providers and enhance the cruise visitor experience in Saint Lucia. Following a record 760,306 cruise passenger visits in 2018 and an even greater number forecast to arrive in 2019, the tourism partners aim to ensure that onshore businesses deliver cruise passenger services that meet international standards. This May, 240 representatives from businesses providing services to cruise visitors participated in Tour Operator Excellence, Tour Guide Excellence, and Port Excellence training sessions run by Aquila’s Center for Cruise Excellence. All those who successfully participated became certified experts in customer service.
Holland America Ship Makes First Call to Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia’s transformed Point Seraphine cruise pier has welcomed a major cruise ship. Holland America Line’s MS EURODAM cruise ship made its inaugural call to Saint Lucia with about 2,000 passengers this week. It was the first plaque exchange ceremony to take place on board a ship at the newly-extended Dolphin berth at Point Seraphine since it opened last month. “Holland American Line has been regularly coming to Saint Lucia and I have been here many times on my other ships but we found out the Eurodam has never been here. So we are very happy to host this little ceremony to commemorate out first visit to your beautiful island.” said Captain Eric Barhorst. Holland America has been serving Saint Lucia since the 1960s.
