Grounding in Karachi

Fri Jan 21 11:56:24 CET 2022 Timsen

On Jan 20, 2022, the 'MSC Emily II' ran aground at Karachi port after its steering mechanism malfunctioned and it veered off its course. Three tugs were sent to refloat the ship, but their first attempt has failed due to unsiuitable tides. The ship has not disrupted the maritime traffic, and the channel remained open. At 10.40 a.m. the vessel was finally free again and berthed at the Karachi International Container Terminal. It had left the port of Mundra on Jan 19.

Two men suffered severe burns they sustained while working on the "Tasman Campaigner"at Tauranga at 12.20 p.m. on Mar 28, 2011, while carrying out an inspection of the boiler room. One man was taken to Tauranga Hospital with severe burns and another sustained moderate burns. They were burnt when steam emitted from the boiler. An inspection revealed that a procedural error led to the men being injured as the boilers door was opened while steam was still inside. One of the men was discharged on Mar 28 and the other is expected to be discharged on Mar 29. Quadrant Pacific Agencies as the port agent responsible for the "Tasman Campaigner" is completing an own report into the incident. Maritime New Zealand meanwhile cleared the "Tasman Campaigner" to leave port. It departed Tauranga at about 5am on Monday.
