Emergency anchoring manoever to avoid collision on the Elbe

Mon Sep 04 09:06:44 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Sep 1, the "Mette Maersk" had to carry out an emergency anchoring manoever on the Elbe at Krautsand to avoid the collision with a pleasure boat. The 30 year old skipper had dialled the number of the water police in Hamburg because he felt overwhelmed with the navigation of his boat. As it turned out later, he had previously endangered the container vessel because of a wrong driving maneuver. Shortly after the emergency call, the police was able to stop the boat at Krautsand. A breathalyzer test showed a value of 0.48 per thousand. The skipper was now expecting a punishment because of the threat to shipping. The "Mette Maersk" which had come from Bremerhaven safely berthed in Hamburg on Sep 2 at 1.30 a.m. She left again bound for Gothenburg on Sep 3 at 7 p.m.
