Russian freighter listing off Laukvik

Sat Mar 18 13:04:17 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Mekhanik Fomin" suffered a list of about 35-40 degrees to port between 35 and 40 degrees about 25 nautical miles from Hadseløya off Laukvik when it passed the outer Vesterålen in the morning of March 18, 2017. The ship was enroute from Arkhangelsk to Inverness. The Coastguard deployed the patrol boat "Senja" and the tug "Stilborg" (IMO: 9158666) to assist. The freighter was traveling southwards towards England with a cargo of lumber and a crew of 13 on board. It also lost two packages of lumber of 5 cbm each north of Vestvågøy, SW of Bø. A navigational warning was issued accordingly. The ship was advised to get to the quay Sortland and was escorted into the Hadselfjord by the two other ships, sailing under own power with a pilot on board. The list was caused by a cargo shift in stormy winds. Probably the cargo will have to be unloaded to correct the list. The ship finally berthed at 3.10 p.m. Norwegian reports with video and photos: http://www.vol.no/nyheter/hadsel/2017/03/18/Russisk-skip-fikk-slagside-14466580.ece http://www.tv2.no/a/9003299/ https://www.blv.no/skipsfart/kystvakta/nyheter/far-hjelp-med-forskjovet-last/s/5-9-191208 http://www.love24.no/russisk-havarist-pa-slep-hadselfjorden/ https://www.blv.no/skipsfart/kystvakta/nyheter/far-hjelp-etter-at-lasta-forskjov-seg/s/5-9-191208 http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2630998 http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2630997 http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2630996
