Medevac off Kiel

Thu Jan 19 13:42:44 CET 2017 Timsen

Only three days after arriving at the Laboe station, the new lifeboat "Berlin" had its first performance in the evening of Jan 18, 2017. She came to the aid of a severely ill sailor aboard the "Marie Lehmann" in Kiel Bay. The man needed urgent medical attention because of severe chest pain. Shortly after the alarm around 9:15 p.m., the boat speeded towards the freighter iwth 25 knots which was off Kiel Lighthouse then. Once alongside, a mechanic and a crew member trained as a rescue assistant were transferred onto the cargo ship in western winds of 4-5 Beaufort. It was decided to treat the 52-year-old patient aboard the "Marie Lehmann". Accompanied by the "Berlin", the freighter headed to Kiel. Both ships docked in the eastern port where the land based rescue service took over the further supply of the sailor.
