Disabled cargo ship blocked fairway
In the early morning of July 24, 2016, the Hunte had to be blocked for ship traffic after the "Lisa D" got caught by strong currents while sailing with reduced Speed and was pushed perpendicular to the fairway in dense fog off the Hunte-Barrier. The ship was pushed against two pilings and unable to proceed with pwn power. Only when the current changed with the tide, the 63-year old Lithanian master was able to regain control and continue the voyage from Szczecin to Elsfleth with own power. Master tested with alcohol level just below two per thousand
The Danish authorities became aware of the "Lisa D" enroute Gothenburg-Gdansk in the evening of Sep 1, 2012, when the ship was lurching in the Øresund. Attempts to get in contact via VHF failed. South of Amager the Copenhagen police ordered the crew to throw rope ladders out, boarded the ship with four armed officers and took an alcohol meter test from the Lithuanian captain. The alcohol level was just below two per thousand, so he was allowed to sleep it off aboard the ship because the second helmsman was sober. The vessel got a sailing ban until 6 a.m. on Sep 2. Had the captain's blood alcohol level been more than two, he would have spent the night at the police station and could face a prison sentence.
