Source of oil leak found, oil removed
The "Marcos Dias" remained berthed at warehouse 22 in Santos where she had berthed on Feb 5 for discharging of 43,100 metric tons of salt in bulk. The oberserved leak of oil was found to have been caused by a valve failure. Around 80 litres had leaked. The operations of collecting and removing of the oil were completed in the afternoon of Feb 8. The discharge operation re-started at 7 p.m. Spanish report with photo: http://www.atribuna.com.br/noticias/noticias-detalhe/porto%26mar/ibama-conclui-que-mais-de-100-litros-de-oleo-vazaram-de-navio-no-estuario/?cHash=440adf83c4fd241741431bacb89e64ab
Bulkcarrier under suspicion of oil loss
In the port of Santos oil stains were observed near the "Marcos Dias" on Feb 6, 2018. The ship was docked at Warehouse 22 pier, in the Outeirinhos region on the right bank of the complex to unload a cargo of salt. The estimate was that between 30 and 50 liters of oil reached the estuary. It was believed that the fuel was leaking from ship’s tanks through cracks in hull. Technicians from the Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Codesp) triggered a plan for emergency services in Oporto. Divers were to survey the underwater hull in the night. All ship’s operations were suspended, the bulkcarrier was fenced off by booms. Ship sailing again after hit by Marcos Dias
The "ABML Eva" left Santos on Jan 13, after on Jan 12 the Brazilian flagged bulkcarrier "Marcos Dias" (IMO: 9070565), left the anchorage of Santos bound for Rio de Janeiro, Ilha da Conceicao, where it docked on Jan 13 at 11.30 a.m. The ship had been in collision with the "ABML Eva" 62273 gt (IMO: 9070565), on Dec 31, 2012 at 6.30 p.m. after a loss of its propulsion system. The "Marcos Dias" had been coming from the cradle terminal 5 in Usiminas to unload 40,000 tons of iron ore, coming from Rio de Janeiro. The vessel dropped two anchors, but drifted into the "ABML Eva", thereby suffering damage to the port side foreship. Also the P4 Portainer at the warehouse 37 of Libra Terminals was pushed off the rails, and the quay fendering was damaged. Pending the Investigation, the release of the "Marcos Dias" was delayed.
