Source of oil leak found, oil removed
The "Marcos Dias" remained berthed at warehouse 22 in Santos where she had berthed on Feb 5 for discharging of 43,100 metric tons of salt in bulk. The oberserved leak of oil was found to have been caused by a valve failure. Around 80 litres had leaked. The operations of collecting and removing of the oil were completed in the afternoon of Feb 8. The discharge operation re-started at 7 p.m. Spanish report with photo: http://www.atribuna.com.br/noticias/noticias-detalhe/porto%26mar/ibama-conclui-que-mais-de-100-litros-de-oleo-vazaram-de-navio-no-estuario/?cHash=440adf83c4fd241741431bacb89e64ab
Bulkcarrier under suspicion of oil loss
In the port of Santos oil stains were observed near the "Marcos Dias" on Feb 6, 2018. The ship was docked at Warehouse 22 pier, in the Outeirinhos region on the right bank of the complex to unload a cargo of salt. The estimate was that between 30 and 50 liters of oil reached the estuary. It was believed that the fuel was leaking from ship’s tanks through cracks in hull. Technicians from the Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Codesp) triggered a plan for emergency services in Oporto. Divers were to survey the underwater hull in the night. All ship’s operations were suspended, the bulkcarrier was fenced off by booms.
