Self combustion of coal cargo
In the evening of Mar 12, 2016, rising temperatures were remarked in a cargo hold of the "Sunny Putney", at the Enel Dock in Costa Morena, Brindisi, while offloading a cargo of 60,800 tonnes of hard coal for the thermal power plant Federico II. A self-combustion was thought to be the cause. City firefighters were called, and the situation was soon under control. They were on scene from midnight to 6 a.m. The measured temperatures of the coal in the holds did not reach the limit of 55 degrees established by the International Code IMSBC, but were still higher than the averages recorded at Enel Brindisi terminal.
