Container ship assisted distressed migrants
The SAR ship 'Guardamar Polimnia' has rescued 55 distressed migrants on July 14, 2022, about 98 kilometers northeast of Lanzarote. They were trying to reach the Canary Islands in a zodiac with also seven children on board. There were 38 men, ten women and seven minors on board the Zodiac, all of them of sub-Saharan origin. They were taken to the port of Arrecife, where they arrived at around 2:30 p.m. The Zodiac was sighted by the 'Maersk Roubaix', en route from Monrovia to Albouraya, at around 8:05 a.m.. which remained alongside until the rescue ship arrived. It then resumed its course with an ETA as of July 16.
Disabled container ship towed to Taranto
The 'Maersk Roubaix' suffered an engine failure and power loss on Dec 20, 2021, and went adrift en route from Tuzla to Onne in the Ionian Sea in position 36 18 50 N, 18 10 54 E. As repairs could not be carried out by the crew, the tug 'Pantokrator' was contracted to tow the vessel to the nearest container port Taranto. The towage operation commenced on Dec 23. The convoy entered the port upon completion of formalities on Dec 25 at 11 a.m. A class surveyor, together with the owners' representative and H&M experts, conducted a detailed damage survey to ascertain the cause of the incident and the extent of damage.
Robery off Pointe Noire
On Oct 20, 2019, a robbery was discovered aboard the 'Maersk Roubaix' by the on board ISPS personnel during a patrol. It was discovered that, the padlock of the paint locker was cut open, and ship equipment had been stolen. The ship sailed from Pointe Noire anchorage en route to Matadi with an ETA as of Oct 31.
