Medevac in Algeciras

Thu Apr 09 19:28:39 CEST 2020 Timsen

A 38-year old crew member of the 'Maersk Lamanai' was medevaced at Algeciras roads on April 8, 2020, with coronavirus symptoms. At 3.30 p.m. Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR ship 'Salvamar Denébola' to the ship, which had come from Barcelona, at the Delta anchorage off Getares beach, four miles from the coast. The vessel transferred the patient to the Saladillo dock in the port of Algeciras, where an ambulance waited for his transfer to the Quirónsalud hospital in Los Barrios. The container ship remained anchored off the port on April 9. The crew member was later tested for the coronavirus with negative result, and the ship will continue its journey, as planned, with a next call in Tenerife. The patient, the second captain of the container ship, will remain in the hospital until his full recovery.
