Medevac off Southwest Pass
The US Coast Guard medevaced a 26-year-old man from the "Prins Alexander" 195 nautical miles south-southeast of Southwest Pass, Louisiana, on March 28. 2018. Watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District command center received a report from the Secretaría de Marina (Mexican Naval Secretariat), that a crewman aboard the gas tanker was suffering jaw pain. The tanker was approximately 275 miles south of Grand Isle and 80 nautical miles south of the maritime boundary line at the time of the report. SEMAR reported they were unable to medevac the individual and requested assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard. Watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama. The aircrew hoisted the man and transferred him to waiting emergency medical services at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans. EMS transported the patient to Ochsner Medical Center.
